In 2024, Spain demonstrated that contributions are not limited to financial support by increasing its share in NATO; equipment, personnel, and technology are also part of its key strategies.

At the recent NATO summit, Spain announced that its financial contribution in 2024 has increased significantly, and alongside this, it is placing greater emphasis on military equipment, personnel, and advanced technologies.

Financial and Non-Financial Roles

This move is part of Spain's efforts to strengthen European security and respond to emerging threats; while the country's defense budget accounts for about 1.2% of its GDP, its financial share in NATO rose from 1.5% to 2.3%.

Beyond financial support, Spain aims to provide advanced military equipment, specialized personnel, and cyber technologies to comprehensively contribute to collective defense.

This step reflects Spain's commitment to shared security and military cooperation at the NATO level and could serve as a model for other member countries.
