Following two powerful earthquakes that shook Venezuela, the number of casualties has reached a staggering level, with nearly 3000 people losing their lives. These earthquakes, which occurred on June 24 with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, caused widespread destruction in this South American country.
Human and Financial Losses
According to reports, 2954 people have been identified as victims so far, and 16592 others have suffered injuries. Given the critical situation, it is estimated that nearly 100 buildings have been completely destroyed, and more than 850 other buildings have been seriously damaged. As a result, over 16,000 people have become homeless.
Rescue efforts are ongoing, although hopes of finding survivors have significantly diminished. Rescue teams recently managed to save a man from the rubble of a shopping center in the coastal city of Maiquetía, where they had been in contact with him for several days and provided him with water and food.
These earthquakes have not only affected people's lives but have also created a serious humanitarian and economic crisis in Venezuela. Currently, many residents are living in extremely difficult conditions and urgently need assistance.
