The two-day NATO leaders' summit began on Tuesday in Ankara, with multiple topics on the agenda, including strengthening the alliance's defense and providing new assistance to Ukraine against Russian aggression. This meeting takes place amid increasing tensions among NATO member countries and the United States.
Tensions and Criticisms Ahead of the Summit
The United States government, led by the President, has repeatedly criticized its allies and called for increased defense spending. In recent days, criticisms have intensified and speculation about insufficient support from some countries for Ukraine has grown. At this summit, there will be a particular emphasis on arms production and financing to support Ukraine against Russian threats.
The NATO Secretary General, ahead of this summit, announced new agreements on weapons worth "several tens of billions of dollars" and urged member countries to provide the necessary military assistance to Ukraine.
