As the city of Erfurt prepares to host the important AfD party conference, tens of thousands of protesters are expected to come to the city from across Germany, including from the state of Brandenburg. The Minister of the Interior of Brandenburg, John Redman, has called on protesters in a video to refrain from violence in their demonstrations and has urged for calm.

Attention to the Security of Gatherings

Redman stated in the video: "It is the right of protesters to raise their voices, but there is no justification for violence." He also expressed hope that the event will ultimately take place without harm and in peace. Meanwhile, the head of the police union has also advised protesters to show respect towards law enforcement.

The AfD conference will take place on Saturday and Sunday at the Erfurt exhibition center, where up to 600 party members will gather to elect new leadership. Following this conference, the police have confirmed that thousands of law enforcement officers from across the country will be deployed to ensure security in Erfurt.

Three politicians from Brandenburg are also trying to gain a seat on the national party board; these include Hans Gnauck, a Bundestag representative, and Dennis Hohlsch, a state parliament representative, who are both seeking to regain their positions, while Jean Pascal Hom, the head of AfD youth, is running for office for the first time.
