While Russia is continuously waging a covert war against Europe, German security agencies such as the BND and the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution were only allowed to collect and assess information. However, it now seems that the German government intends to significantly enhance the power of these agencies with a comprehensive program.

These reforms will enable the aforementioned agencies to take actions beyond merely gathering information in response to security threats. Given recent developments and rising tensions, this action appears to be critically necessary for the protection of national security and to counter Russian influence.
