In the deep darkness of the Indian Ocean, a remarkable discovery has excited science: a vast graveyard of whales that stretches 1200 kilometers and includes the remains of nearly 500 whales. This discovery is so astonishing that few can imagine it.
Unknown Ecosystems in the Depths of the Sea
The remains of these whales, some of which are up to 5.3 million years old, are located at a depth of about 7000 meters. This graveyard has become a unique ecosystem rich in unknown species of deep-sea creatures.
When a whale dies, its body falls to the ocean floor and becomes a food source for many organisms. This phenomenon, known as “Whale Falls,” is rarely well documented despite being familiar. This discovery not only provides us with new information about underwater life but also raises many questions about the life cycle in the deep seas.
