The NATO summit has recently begun, and with important security issues being raised, Trump's controversial remarks about Greenland have once again drawn attention. He stated at this summit that the United States is prepared to defend this territory at all costs.
Why Greenland?
Greenland, the world's largest island, holds a sensitive geostrategic position and has become a political hotspot in recent years due to climate change and access to natural resources. In his remarks, Trump highlighted the importance of this island in what he calls "defending America's national interests" and stated that the country will never allow a threat to Greenland's security to arise.
At this summit, in addition to issues related to Greenland, NATO leaders also discussed defense budgets, with predictions that Germany will set a new record in this area by 2026. However, alongside these issues, Erdogan's invitation to a surprising banquet seems to have specific implications given the existing tensions in the region.
