As the festival season in Germany draws near, large parking lots become a strange scene. Cars parked together without license plates have become a common sight, seemingly due to serious concerns from participants about the theft of their plates. In fact, at some festivals, including the Parookaville festival in North Rhine-Westphalia, there have been reports of over 50 plates being stolen in a single day.
Why This Fear?
Festivals are known for their lively and energetic atmosphere, but crowded parking lots filled with cars are always threatened by theft. Participants are well aware that plate theft can create legal issues and problems for them. For this reason, some prefer to keep themselves safe from this risk by removing their plates.
Although this action may seem logical, questions arise about its legality. Can license plates really be removed so easily? What does the law say about this? Currently, there is no clear answer, and it seems this issue remains a topic of discussion and examination.
