Pickpocketing in Tourist Cities: Where You Should Be Careful?

Among Europe's popular cities, some tourist destinations are significantly more dangerous than others. Have you ever fallen victim to theft during your travels?

You might be traveling to a tourist city with a camera in hand, capturing sweet moments, but in the blink of an eye, your bag could be stolen. According to a new survey, some cities in Europe are recognized as more dangerous destinations for tourists.

Iran and Italy: Two Sides of the Coin

While cities like Istanbul, with a population of 15 million and the same number of annual visitors, are considered some of the safest tourist destinations, on the other hand, Milan has a completely different situation with frequent thefts from tourists near its famous fortress. In Milan, on average, one in every 162 tourists is stolen from, and over 21,500 thefts are reported annually.

But Milan is not the only city putting tourists at risk. London, especially in busy areas like Westminster and Camden Market, is also recognized as another dangerous destination; nearly one in every 367 tourists falls victim to theft in these areas.

Peace in Popular Islands

In contrast, the island of Mallorca in Spain, as one of the popular tourist destinations, has a better situation. In Palma, only one in every 1,600 tourists is stolen from, indicating the relative safety of this area for travelers.

Additionally, in terms of car theft, France ranks first, having the highest number of car thefts among European countries. With nearly 242 car thefts per 100,000 people, this country is recognized as the most unsafe place to park cars.

Ultimately, considering these statistics, it seems that greater vigilance and caution are necessary when traveling to popular cities to enjoy a pleasant travel experience.
