In a rare and alarming incident, the IT systems related to courts, public prosecutors, and the Ministry of Justice in Bavaria have been widely disrupted. This disruption was such that the telephone and email communications of these entities were suspended, and the situation was such that none of the officials could communicate with each other via landlines or email.
Crisis Call from Judges
The President of the Bavarian Judges' Association, Barbara Stockinger, expressed concern over this situation, emphasizing that "a digital justice system without efficient crisis management programs cannot have a future." She added: "The judiciary must maintain its functionality even in times of crisis and in the event of disruptions to central systems. These incidents clearly demonstrate the necessity of resilient and backup systems to ensure the operation of the judiciary under any circumstances."
The disruption began on Thursday, and according to a spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice, it is unclear whether this issue has been resolved at present. Overall, this disruption arose due to a problem in the network infrastructure at the data center of the Bavarian tax office, leading to limitations in the operations of courts and public prosecutors.
