On the eve of the important state elections in Saxony-Anhalt, scheduled for September 6, the right-wing party AfD seems to be shirking a TV debate with its rivals. This claim was publicly made by "Swen Schulze," the Prime Minister and candidate of the CDU, who stated that he had invited AfD to participate in a TV debate, but this party has largely avoided the offer.

Does this reflect reality?

Schulze stated in an interview with the media: "This reality shows that AfD is unwilling to debate out of fear of revealing its true self. This behavior exposes the real face of this party." Currently, AfD is significantly ahead of CDU in polls with nearly 40 percent.

At present, Saxony-Anhalt is governed by a coalition of CDU, SPD, and FDP. Meanwhile, Schulze also spoke about the protests against the AfD national congress taking place this weekend in Erlangen, emphasizing that the right to hold the congress is reserved for AfD, but any violence during these protests could benefit the party.
