Investigation into Controversial Student Slogans Halted

Following the controversy surrounding the graduation slogan selection at a school in Gießen, investigations against five students have been suspended, with conditions set for their continued release.

In a controversial incident related to the selection of a graduation slogan at a school in Gießen, legal investigations against five students have been suspended. This decision was made due to concerns about anti-Semitic and racist statements that were raised during the proposals for these slogans.

Conditions for the Suspension of Investigations

According to the prosecutor's office, this suspension is conditional upon the students confronting the dark aspects of history, including the crimes of the Nazi regime and the actions of terrorist groups such as ISIS, in a serious and documented manner. Additionally, they must also engage in community service.

Reports indicate that the students had collected proposals for the graduation slogan on an anonymous platform, which included racist and offensive ideas. Among these proposals was a controversial phrase called “NSDABI - Verbrennt den Duden,” which clearly referenced the Nazi Party.

In the juvenile justice system, the main goal is education and rehabilitation, and if the specified conditions are not met, there is a possibility of resuming investigations and issuing an indictment.
